Sculptra
Sculptra is a collagen regeneration product that, unlike other fillers such as Restylane and Collagen, works by actually stimulating your skin to produce new collagen. It works by activating skin cells called fibroblasts that are responsible for manufacturing the supportive structural tissue we call collagen.
Sculptra is made up of tiny particles of Poly L Lactic Acid (the material found in resorbable sutures) mixed with water and lidocaine (an anesthetic). The particles of Poly L Lactic Acid act like seeds, stimulating the body to grow collagen. Since Sculptra works slowly, the improvement in your face will be gradual.
As its name implies, a series of treatments with Sculptra will fill in and recontour depressed and indented areas where underlying supportive collagen and fatty tissue have diminished with age or have been damaged or scarred via injury or disease. Adding varying amounts of Sculptra to different areas allows us to "sculpt" your face over time.
Between 3 to 4 treatments, about 4 to 6 weeks apart, are usually necessary to produce the desired result. New collagen production gradually appears over a period up to 6 months for a natural, healthy fuller look. The results from Sculptra appear to last most patients at least 1 1/2 to 2 years before gradually beginning to fade.
